"No matter how much time I spend teaching my children, however, they are unlikely to learn much from us if they don't like us."
- The Arbinger Comany. (1998). The Parenting Pyramid. The Arbinger Institute. Salt Lake City: The Arbinger Company.
A relationship needs to built first, before we try to teach them. Correction then becomes easy.
The Arbinger Company's Parenting Pyramid teaches us that our need to correct our children will only be effective if we have taken the time to learn to teach in a quality way.
An example might be technology. We should take the time to learn the technology our children use. This will not only allow us to warn of potential dangers but to help with protections, alternatives, and even escapes when necessary. This also provides an opportunity to teach and share about the joys of technology. These include communications, games, education, and even Gospel applications.
